1915 to collect and preserve for posterity the life and history of humankind. In 1911, San Diego began planning the 1915 Panama-California
Exposition, creating a unique educational concept to distinguish itself from the San
Francisco exposition planned for the  same year.The Panama-California Exposition opened on January 1, 1915, with The Story of
Man through the Ages enjoying public acclaim. As the Exposition neared its close in November 1915, a farsighted group of San Diegans formed the San Diego
Museum Association. Explore the mystery, beauty, and excitement of San Diego's only anthropological museum. One of the nation's great
collections of artifacts, folk art, and archaeological finds is located here. These treasures help to unfold stories of the past of
hunters creating the first spears and arrows, potters molding fragile ceramic vessels, weavers patterning vibrantly colored textiles, and artisans blending
